AFE’s Memorial Tribute for Marc van Iersel

The industry lost a researcher, mentor, educator, entrepreneur and friend when University of Georgia Professor Marc van Iersel passed away at the age of 57 in April.

Marc was well known in the industry for his decades of horticulture research at UGA. He was a leader in lighting research, helping growers through Project LAMP (Lighting Approaches to Maximize Profits) and through his company, Candidus, which he co-founded with Erico Mattos to bring new lighting technologies to market.

He’s helped so many in our industry over the years and the American Floral Endowment (AFE)—which funded Marc’s lighting research—has established a memorial tribute in his honor.
